As we go about our day, we might feel stress, but don’t often relate it to what effect it can have on our bodies.

After being in healthcare for so many years, I have seen many trends. One sure idea is that no one is immune to how mindset translates to health situations.

Watching loved ones suffer or die is a common occurrence for onset of stress. In numerous cases, I have seen a family member pass immediately after their loved one.

People call it “dying from a broken heart.” Science recalls the mind-body connection.

Situations like this happen often, but not always to the extreme of death. Health deficits can occur from mental turmoil also.

Think about your day to day. You might suffer silently watching those around you hurting or even carry your own secret burdens. Perhaps you have stress from a job or another circumstance in your life.

All the things that pile on us create stress. Realizing your mindset has a huge impact on stopping this can create healthy boundaries.

Dos and Don’ts for a Powerful Mindset

One of the most important points to remember when trying to gain control of your mind is that thoughts lead to emotions, then emotions create actions.

Often, we think it’s the other way around because our emotions can be so powerful. However, everything begins with our thoughts.

While it’s not easy, gaining control of your mindset is a step toward whole health.

One important aspect is your perspective. The right outlook allows a sturdy foundation to begin a mindset transition.

Stay true to yourself and keep your thoughts in check to make sure you’re on track.

DON’T Allow Your Mindset to Create Stress

We all have our own stressors, and most of us know exactly what, or who, they are. The prior two points help to identify stress in your life as you focus on your thoughts. Don’t allow thoughts to control you, but instead, realize what creates areas of stress.

One of the comments I hear often is, “It must have been luck.” I personally don’t believe in luck and don’t think things happen randomly. If this is true, then rethinking many situations we discount is an important part of managing our mindset.

Yes, some things happen out of our control, but a healthy mindset focuses on what might be the next step no matter. If we understand that things aren’t random occurrences, then we won’t discount them when they happen.

An important part of creating mental wellness is personal growth. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, there is always room for growth.

The important first steps are to realize it pertains to everyone and believe it’s possible. Taking this a step further, we realize that growth is necessary to usher in our greater potential. If we stay stale, there’s no way to reach our dreams or goals in life.

One of the most common issues I see that creates difficulty for a healthy mindset is setting unrealistic goals. Another part of this is having unrealistic expectations. Often, we focus on what we want, and strive to get it, instead of focusing on our needs or what is realistic.

This has become a common situation in society that promotes disappointment, frustration, and difficulty rebounding from unmet goals. Realizing this gives you a better outlook for the expectations you have along your journey.

Just to clarify, this is not to say don’t strive and dream, or not to be motivated, it is simply a guideline that does not inflate ideas beyond what are in our control for action.

DO Believe in Yourself

Belief is part of the strength of your mindset. Following the previous steps, you can create a very powerful mind and outlook. Practice makes perfect in creating good habits. You will realize that you can be entrusted with your own thoughts.

This may sound silly, but it is a situation many never master. So often we are victims of our mindset and have great difficulty taking control of our thoughts and actions. Believing we can create a more powerful mindset is vital for each step.  An additional view is healing mentally and emotionally. We truly can achieve this if we set our mind to it.

DO Use the Word “Will” More Often

An excellent way to practice greater belief is to make a statement. Literally. Instead of responding verbally with negative phrases, begin to purposefully place “will” in your vocabulary. Using “I will” instead of “I can’t” or “it will” instead of “it won’t” creates a very powerful step toward an optimistic view.

As you take authority over a negative mindset, your emotions, outlooks, and beliefs begin to change. When you maintain that same view over time, it promotes a very powerful mindset.

If asked, most people would prefer to have a positive outlook rather than lug around the weight of negative thoughts and emotions. We even sometimes wish we could turn off our emotions.

Instead of building up stress, you can gain better health by possessing an optimistic outlook. Remember the mind-body connection and how your brain is part of the translation for your health.

Unlike inspiration, which is a part of us, motivation can be learned and is a choice. It is an extrinsic reaction used to get what we want in a situation.

Once you’re motivated to begin, the correct mindset can also keep you moving forward. Taking next steps is necessary for growth and is a vital part of progressing.
